Found Poetry is an exercise in creativity and composition. The first challenge is finding words from the page that make sense together, without being next to each other. The next is to find a way to tie them together in a composition that leads the eye through the poem the way it is meant to be read. The difficulty for this series was not only finding poetry on the selected pages, but arranging it in a way that works around the portrait with which it is paired.
The portraits themselves are of my siblings, the only exception being my niece, who joined us recently. The order in which these are presented is the birth order of my siblings, my niece, and I. Each portrait is a different medium, ranging from pastels to laser-cut fibers to digital painting, to keep from the banality of working in one medium.
